Technical report Photo-Scurion® - Kronio Project 2012

In December 2012 the team of La Venta made a second test with Scurion®-1500 with additional heatsink and the special foto optics :

laventa

Project: Kronio

Participants: Commissione Grotte E. Boegan (Trieste) – La Venta Esplorazioni Geografiche

Location: Cave “Stufe di San Calogero”, Municipality of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicily

Period: December 5/16-2012

Air temperature in the first chamber of the cave (the seats area): 36.96 °C

Air temperature at -20 (the pots area): 37.03 °C

Humidity: slightly over 100% (presence of internal stable cloud)

Number of visits in the cave with Scurion® light: 8

Model used: Photo-Scurion®1500

Note: the lamp is a new model with a frosted lens, a new battery pack and was intentionally used with the “Heatsink” accessory, the heat dissipator, in order to test it in the most extreme conditions.

In the course of the Kronio Project the association La Venta has carried out a functionality test on the brand new “Photo-Scurion®” lamp inside the Stufe di San Calogero in Sciacca (Agrigento – Italy), a thermal cave with a temperature of 37 °C and 100% humidity. In this extreme environment, back in November 2011, another test had been carried out on Scurion® lamps in order to verify their resistance to heat exposure (Kronio2011); this time the test aimed at checking the functionality of the new model optimized for video and photographic shooting.

Originally, the lamp develops a full power of 1500 lumen, but the new light globe causes a slight absorption.

The new ground lense placed over the spot led distributes the light evenly, creating a diffuse lighting on the shooting set.

The new battery pack is very compact, solid and heat resistant. The battery pack is easy to replace, avoiding uncomfortable connectors as in the former versions. This is truly an excellent solution!

Also the waterproof connector from the lamp to the battery pack is an excellent solution; in fact, if needed, it allows inserting the chord inside the helmet passing between the ventilation holes and so avoiding damages from blows against the rock.

Inserting the Heatsink was extremely useful, considering the time of exposure to the heat; it is not at all bulky and its contribution to heat dissipation is noteworthy, so increasing the lamp functionality in hot environments.

As a final comment, we may say that the Photo-Scurion® functional, resistant, trustworthy and highly performing for video and photographic shooting.
